BRYON BAY AREA

If you live in and around the Byron shire and you would like to try fix or improve your own tv reception without tools then my first suggestion before calling me to come over and fix it for you is to simply retune your set top box, TV or PVR.   By simply retuning them it may solve your problems and save you some money in the process.

So the first thing to try fix or improve your own tv reception is to retune and I STRONGLY suggest you first unplug the tv antenna lead from your tv, then do an auto tune so no channels will be found, THEN plug the antenna lead back in and do a manual Digital Tune. THIS IS IMPORTANT …… the reason WHY its important is because now there are several transmitters in the Byron area it is quite possible your tv will tune any signal it will find which means that when you would press button 2 on your remote for ABC, the actual ABC that comes up may be pix-elating and look bad.

Let me explain a bit more…. it could be because your tv tuned in a weaker abc signal from a transmitter that your antenna is NOT aiming at and the REAL ABC you want is still tuned into your tv but you may find it on channel 363.   SO…please do a manual tune to these channels….

For Ocean Shores  channels  46, 48, 49, 50, 51

For Byron Water tower on Patterson St are now 41, 42, 43, 44, 45
(Please note these were changed as of March 2014)
For Mt Nardi   29, 30, 31, 32, 33
For the upper North coast and Lower Gold Coast, its best just do an auto scan. Gold Coast channels start at 34 and go right through to 49.

How do I know which transmitter my antenna is pointing to?

Well, if your antenna is pointing towards Byron Bay Water tower (not that far South from the lighthouse) it is Patterson St tower.  If it is pointing kind of West or North Westish then chances are its Mt Nardi.  If your in Ocean Shores area and its pointing North to North Westish it may be pointing to Springbrook in which case use the same channel settings as Mt Nardi.  If it is pointing towards Devine’s Hill at ocean shores then it is the Ocean Shores tower.

TWEED AREA

HI, and thank you for taking a look at some ides below that may help you try fix or improve your own tv reception if your living around Tweed Coast area.

In the Tweed area to try fix or improve your own tv reception first just understand that it is possible to pick up reception from the Gold Coast and also some Brisbane stations as well as Northern NSW stations.  So, that can get awfully confusing when it comes to watching the channel you want because you may end up with around 120 or so channels. These channels can be double or tripled up so that’s why it can be confusing.

So to try fix or improve your own tv reception my first suggestion before calling me to come over and fix your reception for you is to simply retune your set top box, TV or PVR.   By simply retuning them it may solve your problems and save you some money in the process.

To try fix or improve your own tv reception follow these instructions to retune. I STRONGLY suggest you do an auto tune so all channels will be found. In the Tweed area it is quite possible your tv will tune any signal it will find which means that when you would press button 2 on your remote for ABC, the actual ABC that comes up may be pix-elating and look bad…WHY???  Well, because your tv tuned in a weaker abc signal from a transmitter that your antenna is NOT aiming at and the REAL ABC you want or the stronger signal is still tuned into your tv but you may find it on channel 363.   That’s just an example for ABC but you could apply that logic to any other station also.

So, there are a couple of ways of find out just how many or where all the channels are. Usually you will have a channel list button on your remote.  So if you press that, then scroll through the list you may get channels in the hundreds and find the best channel you want there.   As said perhaps in the 300’s.  So select the one from the list in the hundreds and see if it looks better than the one you usually watch. If it is….you’ve just kicked a goal!  So now you know where the ‘real’ channel is that you want to watch you can manually press the numbers on your remote to choose that station… eg  press 363.   Some tv’s can give you the option of favourites. This then means you can select those ‘favorite’ channels without having to press 363 or so.Consult your tv’s user guide to set this function up.

So to try fix or improve your own tv reception, if you follow these instructions it could save you a service visit. There have been many a time i have been called and just follwed the above procedure to help the customer. Its all about knowledge and now you have it.
