The Question is: Will a mobile phone signal booster help my reception at home?
- Are you like countless of thousands of mobile phone users experiencing poor mobile phone reception and coverage at home?
- Do you need to step outside or onto the street to make and received mobile phone calls?
- Do you need to divert your mobile calls to your landline because your signal at home just plain sux?
- And now you want to know if a mobile phone signal booster help your reception at home?
The simple answer is yes BUT it can be complicated. There’s much to consider before finding out if a mobile phone signal booster will help you at home.
FAR NORTH COAST OF NSW AND SOUTH EAST QUEENSLAND
I live and work on the Far North Coast of NSW and into South East Queensland. Our mobile phone coverage at the best can be dodgy. Generally speaking I have found Telstra to be the better carrier in our area for coverage. Areas like the hills behind Byron Bay such as Bangalow, Wilsons Creek, Upper Main Arm and The Pocket have lots of very low signal areas that can be helped with a mobile phone signal booster.
Other areas also in the Tweed like the coastal town of Kingscliff where I live can have dodgy signals. Also in areas like Tallebudgera Valley and Currumbin Valley can be have very poor mobile phone coverage and signal.
ARE YOU FRUSTRATED EVEN TRYING TO SEND A TEXT?
Often outside on the balcony is fine but inside the mobile phone signal is like Russian Roulette when you take a call. You wonder if the call will drop out or if you try send a photo via text MMS you can see the send line slowly creeping up then stall and give a notification the message did not send. Yes a mobile phone signal booster can help.
YOU NEED AT LEAST SOME SIGNAL TO BOOST
Thing is a mobile phone signal booster can not boost a signal that is not there. In other words, say you lived in Clothiers Creek and outside you can get one bar of signal then generally speaking a mobile phone signal booster will help you. But if you had no signal at all then there’s no signal for the mobile phone booster to boost.
There are several solutions we can consider to boost your mobile phone signal at home. You could just use an external antenna connected to a mobile phone base. That would mean your phone is static in one place. That is not very convenient. Mobile phone signal boosters however is like a mini repeater or cell within your home so you can be walking around within the coverage radius not needing to be static.
DO YOU WANT TO IMPROVE YOUR PHONE OR DATA?
Maybe it is mobile data you need boosting? Perhaps you are not connected to the NBN and you prefer 4G data? Then you may not need a mobile phone signal booster but one or two dedicated special mobile phone or 3G/4G antennas.
But let’s talk about just boosting your mobile phone reception for starters.
What will you need? The installation generally consists of:
1 x external antenna orientated to the closest mobile phone tower
1x antenna mount for tiles or metal roof
1x lead-in cable to connect between the antenna and the booster
1x signal booster
1x internal antenna
1x power supply
Now let’s talk about boosting your data.
Boosting data and boosting phone is a little different. It kind of defies logic somewhat because you can get mobile data on your phone and also make mobile phone calls all in the one smartphone.
Thing is if you need both your mobile phone signal to improve AND your data it actually means two separate installations. Is it your mobile phone data you need to improve or is it your wireless modem dongle?
To improve your data will not require a mobile booster but it will require either one or two special antennas. If your modem has the ability for two antennas then that would get you much better signal and data speeds. This is something we’d need to discuss when you call me or contact me.
All these parts are very specific for mobile phone transmission and the quality of the connections and parts are of utmost importance to your mobile phone signal boosting to work.
ONLY AUTHORISED BOOSTERS ARE LEGAL
The signal booster itself is something that is authorised and distributed by the mobile phone carriers to distributors and installers. If you have a Telstra mobile then you need a specific mobile phone signal booster that has come from Telstra. If you have an Optus mobile then the mobile signal booster must come from Optus.
There are cheapie ones on the market being sold illegally and are not authorised or tested by the carriers. Every mobile phone booster has like a signature and can be tracked and traced. It is not worth the risk of copping a huge fine for using unauthorised equipment on the mobile phone network.
